Battery Storage

The Solar PV charges the battery using the surplus during peak production. Once the battery’s charged the additional surplus will go to the grid. The system monitors energy consumption and will switch to the battery rather than drawing power from the grid when the Solar PV can’t meet the demand at night for example. The batteries can be used to charge an electric vehicle. You can also charge the battery from the grid to utilise cheaper electricity through new smart dynamic tariffs.

The average battery will require approximately 1-2 m² of wall space and there needs to be space around the battery for ventilation. A battery fitted with the Solar PV will be DC coupled, prior to the inverter and is directly charged from the panels. Batteries can be retrofitted as well; these are more likely to be insatlled after the inverter and therefore be AC coupled.
